Shaheen Ladhani
A former MVP of the Rice University Men's Tennis team, coach Ladhani spent 9 years coaching the men's team upon graduation. His collegiate coaching highlights include a National Doubles Championship Title in 2002 as well as a conference team championship and multiple NCAA team and individual appearances. In addition, the Rice team was ranked in the top 5 in the nation in his final year. He was named NCAA National Coach of the Year in 2004. Ladhani has been the coach for various touring professionals in recent years including players ranked in the top 50 in the world. He has also served as a sport psychology consultant for numerous organizations, teams and individuals around the United States.
Efe Ustundag
A former NCAA All-American at Rice University, Coach Ustundag has been the assistant men's tennis coach at Rice since 2004. Prior to that, he had a 2 year stint with the Texas Tech coaching staff. During his coaching tenure at Rice, his team has been ranked in the top 25 in the nation and has won bids into the NCAA Championships in back to back years.
As a player, Ustundag was ranked in the top 15 in the country in singles and earned All-American status in 1999. He then spent 3 years on the professional tour and also represented Turkey in Davis Cup competition. He brings a wealth of junior, collegiate and professional experience to the Rice coaching staff.
William Barker
William Barker was a 3 time All-American at Rice University. Along with his twin brother (Richard), he won a National Doubles Championship in 2002 and was an integral part of the men's team that was ranked as high as top 5 in the nation. After completing his collegiate career, Coach Barker played on the ATP Tour and won several doubles titles while reaching the top 150 in the world. He was a participant in the Wimbledon Championships in 2005. Coach Barker's knowledge of the game and his exemplary mental toughness brings fresh experience and energy to the coaching staff.
Matthias Mathaes
Coach Mathaes was a 4 year letter-winner for the Rice Men's Team as well as an NCAA Championships qualifier. During his career at Rice, the Owls made major strides to national prominence and were nationally-ranked every year. He has been a coach of many junior players both in Houston and in his native Germany. One of the most talented players in recent Owl history, coach Mathaes brings great insight and wisdom to the coaching staff.
